Welcome to Donna Torrance Dot Com
A little about the artist. My ancestors traveled by wagon to homestead in Nebraska as farmers in 1880. Generations of women quilted blankets. I spent hours at my grandmother’s elbow watching her stitch at her quilters frame.
My family heritage is an integral part of my personality. Sculpting, painting and creating what I know, what’s in my heart and what fascinates me is the core of my work.
My Master’s degree was in Art Education with my thesis researching textiles, creating batik’s with trapunto, which is a form of quilting. My studies at the University of Nebraska at Kearney also included graduate hours in ceramics.
I have been an art educator for over 30 years, 21 years teaching ceramics at Barron Collier High School, in Naples Florida. I have taught public adult education ceramic classes for nineteen years. I also teach fiber arts at the Von Liebig Center “Summer ArtsCool.” With the help of my high school students, I coordinated the first Empty Bowls Event in Naples at Cambier Park, which continues to have success each year for our local food bank.
